How to collect a Surprise Bag

From download to delicious in six easy steps. Here is everything you need to rescue your first bag.

Step 01

Sign up on dailyfoodie.co.za

Create your free account in under two minutes — no credit card required. Just your name, email and location. (Our native app is coming soon to the App Store and Google Play.)

Step 02

Find Surprise Bags near you

Browse the map or list view to find Surprise Bags available at stores, cafés, bakeries and restaurants near you. Filter by price, distance, or type of food.

Step 03

Reserve your bag

Tap on a listing you like and hit Reserve. You'll be shown the price (always at least ⅓ off the original), the collection window, and what to expect in the bag.

Step 04

Pay securely in the app

Pay with your card, EFT or supported payment method directly in the app. You'll receive instant confirmation and a digital receipt.

Step 05

Head to the store

Make your way to the store during the collection window shown on your confirmation. Show your in-app QR code or booking reference to the staff.

Step 06

Collect & enjoy

Pick up your Surprise Bag, head home, and enjoy! Rate the experience in the app to help other rescuers — and to help us improve every day.

Good to know

What is in a Surprise Bag?

The exact contents vary — that's the surprise! You'll usually get a mix of prepared food, baked goods or groceries that the store was not able to sell that day. Always great value.

Can I choose what I get?

Not exactly — part of the magic is the surprise. But the listing will always tell you the type of food (e.g. "Bakery Bag" or "Restaurant Meal") so you know what to expect.

What if I can't make the collection window?

If you can't collect, you can cancel before the window opens for a full refund. After the window opens, bags are typically non-refundable as the store has set food aside for you.
